Kat Ramos Sarmiento

Former Research Associate

Kat graduated from UCSD with a B.S. in Microbiology and began her laboratory career at Garage Brew Co. as a Lab Assistant, where many of her responsibilities centered around Quality Assurance, such as managing yeast health, fermentation tracking, and monitoring various checkpoints in the brewing process. She then joined the Dutton Lab at UCSF as a Research Assistant where she contributed to projects investigating microbial communities by utilizing cheese as a model system. While in the Gibbons, Kat worked as a Research Associate, conducting fecal ex vivo experiments and developing computational projects, looking at the ecology of the gut and its impacts on human health. Kat is passionate about research regarding the human gut microbiome and its involvement in our immune system. Kat went on to study in the MCB program at the University of Washington as a PhD student.
